Jarrod Langford chases a perfect sweep at the TPL Melbourne Decider

Jarrod Langford will be looking to take his third Tenpin Bowling Premier League (TPL) win in a row and be crowned first TPL champion this weekend, as the third round of the TPL is held at Wyncity Keon Park Bowling on October 29-30. Thirty-two of the country’s top bowlers are also expected to compete.

Langford has emerged as TPL’s first genuine star, having won both the Wodonga Classic and the Suncity Showdown. Thanks to those back-to-back wins, the Queenslander is considered the overwhelming favourite to win the inaugural 2022 TPL, but with double Championship points on offer this weekend, his title is not guaranteed.

Up to ten bowlers are technically still in contention, including world number one Jason Belmonte and fellow Aussie superstars Bec Whiting and Sam Cooley.

Langford said his favourite status doesn’t bring additional pressure as he prepares for the final showdown with a humble mindset.

“I am definitely in with a chance to take away a win at the final TPL event,” he said. “But with so many exceptional competitors, including Sam Cooley and Jason Belmonte, I’ll definitely have to be on my A Game.”

“I don’t feel much pressure, I just want to get out there and compete, throw the best shots I can and hopefully come away with a win.”

With most Australian top bowlers gathered in Melbourne, it’s Cooley, Belmonte, Melton and Fahy that will bring the biggest threat to the title.

“Sam, Jason, Alicia and Grace are probably the ones I am looking out for the most,” Langford confirmed. “Alicia and Grace have been on fire in the TPL events, and Sam and Jason speak for themselves.”

He added that his goal is to carry on the momentum and confidence he gained at the Suncity Showdown into the Decider.

“However there are too many changing variables from venue to venue. I always attack what’s in front of me and treat every tournament as a new one, regardless of my previous success,” he said.

Jarrod Langford currently leads the 2022 TPL Championship points table with 200 points, but with double points on offer this weekend it could be anyone’s title for the taking, with Grace Fahy in second sitting on 140 and  Alicia Melton in third place with 130 points.
