Belmonte set to up his game ahead of the Melbourne TPL Decider

World ranked number one Jason Belmonte made his Tenpin Premier League (TPL) debut at the Suncity TPL event on the Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

Having competed exceptionally well during the Saturday’s round robin, Belmonte moved onto the top 16 semi final round. Scoring wins across the board Belmonte advanced onto the Super-8 Final.

However, in a turn of events the new Fast-5 format challenged Belmonte in a way he didn’t expect, and he finished the tournament in 5th place.

Belmonte was blown away by the talent on display at the Suncity TPL event, which pitted him against some of Australia’s best bowlers.

“Australia has grown leaps and bounds in the talent pool. It’s so awesome seeing both the guys’ and girls’ skill levels increase this much,” Belmonte said.

Reflecting on his personal performance, Belmonte was satisfied with his execution up until the final rounds.

“The format for the final matches is half as long as normal and I’ll need to adjust my strategy if I make the show next time,” he said.

“I’m not a fan of the extremely short format. However, this is what the TPL format is currently and it’s my job to bring the best performance I can within whatever format is used.”

Heading into the Melbourne Decider this weekend, Belmonte has high hopes regarding his performance and the future of TPL events.

“I’m excited to see all the players again and visit my friends in Melbourne. The TPL is only going to get better with each event and so I’m excited to roll the ball this weekend.”

The TPL Decider round will be held at Keon Park, from October 29th to 30th. For all event details and ticket information go here
