Queensland’s Jarrod Langford wins back to back TPL titles

Today’s Suncity Showdown Super-8 Final had some twists and turns that no one, not even the players expected.

Jarrod Langford took home his second Tenpin Premier League (TPL)  trophy, with a 3 point win over Alicia Melton in the final.

“It’s an incredible feeling, I came into this with some expectations but I just wanted to bowl really well for myself and got all the way here today and got the win,” the Mcdesme local from northern Queensland said.

Not only has the 25-year-old made his mark in TPL history with his second championship win, but Langford became the first athlete in the tournament to bowl a perfect 300 game in the earlier semi-final.

“This morning I threw the first 300 in TPL. I had a few cracks at it today, hitting a 278 and a 289. I felt really good and confident in what I was doing and ended up getting 12 in a row.”

Coming in at second place, Melton couldn’t believe how far she had come on her TPL journey.

“I’m absolutely stoked, I’m beside myself I can’t put it into words. Even coming second to Jarrod is an amazing feat for me,” Melton said.

“I sort of doubt myself a fair bit so this has actually given me a boost and lets me know I can still do what I do and compete well with the guys.”

“In the finals today I played it shot after shot, I just tried to make good shots, to give myself a chance to stay in the game and see what happens.”

Earlier in the final rounds Blayne Fletcher from Queensland knew he had a tough Super-8 finals ahead of him, especially against World number one Jason Belmonte. With Fletcher’s expectations set low, he surprised himself when he took away the win by 46 pins.

“Jason, he is so good at what he does. I can’t even remember the match, it went so fast, it’s quite surreal and I’m still trying to let it settle in,” Fletcher commented.

“I think he was a bit unfortunate in some cases, I threw some good shots and that’s what I had to do to beat him. You can’t go in and throw 90% effort, you have to give it everything and that’s what I did and I was fortunate to win.”

After being defeated by Melton in the preliminary final Fletcher finished equal third with TPL Wodonga runner up Grace Fahy.
