AUSTRALIA’S BEST TO COMPETE AT TENPIN PREMIER LEAGUE SUNCITY SHOWDOWN

The second round of the recently launched Tenpin Bowling Premier League (TPL) will be held in Alexandra Headlands at Suncity Tenpin on 8-9 October, with 29 of the country’s biggest talent set to line up.

The ‘Suncity Showdown’ will be headlined by world number one, Jason Belmote (NSW) who recently returned to Australia after winning five PBA titles during the 2022 season.

After touching down in Australia, he won the invitational Devil’s Lair tournament in Tasmania, and is looking to add an inaugural TPL crown to his impressive Championships list.

“The 2022 season was one of the strongest seasons of my career. Winning five titles in a single season, shooting 300 on live television and increasing my major championship record to 14 is mind-bending to me,” Belmonte commented.

“This season has motivated me to continue to work even harder to keep reaching beyond the goals I ever thought I could reach.

“This time off following the PBA season and Devil’s Lair has recharged the batteries and I’m really excited to hit the practice lanes again. I want to be as sharp as possible for both the TPL and the upcoming Bowling World Cup,” Belmonte said.

Belmonte will be joined by his 2022 Tenpin Bowling World Cup teammates including Wodonga  Classic defending TPL Champion Jarrod Langford (QLD), defending runner-up Grace Fahy (VIC), Adam Hayes (VIC), Bec Whiting (VIC), Chloe Clague (QLD) and Rebekah Martin (VIC)Unfortunately, World Games Champion Sam Cooley will be unable to attend Suncity Showdown due to travel cancellations caused by hurricane Ian, Florida, USA.

The TPL tournament will be Belmonte’s second competition back in Australia, with a new broadcasting format that gives anyone the opportunity to watch live.

“Anytime we can showcase the talent we have here in Australia to a wider audience I think is important. The TPL has a great opportunity to bring to the forefront many of Australia’s bowling stars and I couldn’t be more excited for us all and the sport,” Belmonte said.

“I would imagine some high scores and really close matches. I wouldn’t be surprised if many if not most of the matches are determined by the final frame! Should be a lot of fun to watch.” Belmonte added.

The Suncity Showdown will also see the TPL debut for Sunshine Coast local Brandon Qualischefski, who received the one invitational spot for a local bowler who qualifies through a home tournament, to compete alongside the household tenpin names and represent the host town.

Watch the TPL Suncity Showdown Super-8 Final LIVE from 12pm AEST on Sunday 9 October via the Tenpin Premier League Facebook and Youtube.
